Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor

The Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor is the name the UK government uses for the belt of towns and countryside between Oxford and Cambridge, across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. The same area has also been called the Oxford–Cambridge Arc and, earlier, the Cambridge - Milton Keynes - Oxford corridor.

In practice

In October 2025 the government published an investment prospectus, This is the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor, setting out investment opportunities in the area; the page was last updated in May 2026. In 2025 the Chancellor also confirmed funding for the Bedford to Cambridge section of East West Rail, the planned railway link between the two university cities.

Why it matters to newcomers

The corridor comes up in news about transport, planning and investment around Cambridge. It helps to know that "Arc" and "Growth Corridor" refer to the same area, so older reports and newer ones can be read side by side. If you are choosing where to live, rail and development plans along the corridor are worth following, although timetables for large projects can change.
