Babraham Research Campus
The Babraham Research Campus is a life-sciences campus south-east of Cambridge, home to the Babraham Institute and a cluster of bioscience companies working alongside it. It sits in the grounds of Babraham Hall, a country estate a few miles outside the city.
In practice
The Babraham Institute is a publicly funded research institute studying the biology of how cells work and how the body changes through life, including immunology, epigenetics and ageing. Around it, the campus provides laboratories and offices for start-ups and growing biotech companies, which can work near the Institute's scientists and share facilities. Babraham is one of several science campuses ringing Cambridge, along with the Biomedical Campus, the Wellcome Genome Campus and Granta Park.
Why it matters to newcomers
If you work in life sciences in Cambridge, you are likely to visit or work on one of these campuses, many of which sit outside the city. Check transport before accepting a job: shuttle buses and cycle routes connect some sites, but many staff drive.
