What happens on the day
On Saturday 14 November 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00, Fossils Galore Museum CIC hosts Sea Monsters with Nigel Marven at its museum and educational centre on High Street in March, Cambridgeshire. The full-day programme brings together British wildlife presenter, producer and museum patron Nigel Marven with the museum's palaeontology team.
Visitors can meet Nigel Marven, explore prehistoric marine reptiles and sea monsters, and inspect a Psittacosaurus dinosaur skeleton alongside the museum's permanent collection. Outside and around the centre, the day includes face painting, music and Jurassic Park Jeeps. Tickets cost £5.00 per person and include entry to the museum.
- Meet Nigel Marven: talks, stories from filming prehistoric and wildlife television, and a chance to meet the museum's patron in person.
- Prehistoric sea monsters and dinosaurs: marine reptile fossils from the Mesozoic seas alongside a Psittacosaurus skeleton.
- Museum galleries and live prep lab: access to the Fossils Galore displays and the "fish bowl" preparation laboratory where fossil finds are excavated from rock.
- Family programme: face painting, music and Jurassic Park Jeeps, organised in an accessible, neurodivergent-friendly setting.
Nigel Marven and Fossils Galore Museum CIC
Nigel Marven studied botany and zoology at the University of Bristol before spending more than a decade with the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol and later fronting landmark series for Impossible Pictures and ITV. To palaeontology fans he is best known for presenting the Walking with Dinosaurs specials Chased by Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters: A Walking with Dinosaurs Trilogy (2003), in which he dived into the seven most dangerous prehistoric seas in Earth's history, as well as the six-part ITV series Prehistoric Park (2006).
Fossils Galore Museum CIC was founded in March by palaeontologist Jamie Jordan as a community interest company dedicated to hands-on palaeontology and Earth science education, with a specific commitment to accessible and neurodivergent-friendly visits. Because the Fenland towns sit close to the Lower Oxford Clay exposures around Peterborough and Whittlesey, the museum is particularly strong on Jurassic marine life from Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties, alongside Ice Age mammals from the Fen gravels.
Inside the building on High Street, the permanent displays and preparation laboratory feature specimens such as Stompy, a woolly rhinoceros skull, Indie, an Iguanodon dinosaur skeleton being prepared out of its matrix by the museum's team, and Jordanichthys, a large Jurassic fish, together with a fossil identification service led by Jamie Jordan.

Why we highlight it
Cambridge has the Sedgwick Museum on Downing Street, which is world-class, but Fenland has a fossil culture of its own: working quarries in the Oxford Clay, amateur collectors who prepare their own specimens, and a community museum where children can watch real dinosaur and marine reptile bones being cleaned out of the rock. At £5 a head including museum entry, a half-hour train ride from Cambridge to March makes an easy, practical Saturday trip for families and natural history enthusiasts.
